Iceland

Visit to Iceland hosted by Spiced Destinations

Day 1:

We started the day by driving to the historical and geological wonder Thingvellir National Park. You can see where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart. Thingvellir was also the setting of the world's oldest parliament, founded around 930. Thingvellir has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2004. You'll head to the Geysir geothermal area, where the geyser Strokkur shoots a column of water up to 25- 30 meters into the air every few minutes in a thrilling display of nature's forces. The tour continued to Gullfoss, a two-tiered waterfall in the river Hvita. The river tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32 m (105 ft.) deep in an extraordinary display of natural power. Gullfoss is considered one of the most photogenic waterfalls in the world.

We then arrived at the base camp for an exciting Snowmobile adventure on the Langjokull Glacier. Langjokull Glacier is home to several enormous ice-filled volcanic craters rimmed by imposing volcanoes and set in the breathtaking Icelandic interior. The views from the flanks of Langjokull are pretty incredible. In the distance rests Eiríksjökull glacier, the highest mountain in west Iceland, the dome shaped Hofsjökull glacier, and the Kerlingafjöll Mountain range.

Day 2

We then departed to Thorsmork Valley and boarded our specially modified vehicle. Famous for its breathtaking scenery, Þórsmörk has long been one of Icelandic Highland's most popular destinations. This tour took us into the valley in a modified vehicle that can forge rivers and tackle any terrain. Riding in these vehicles is an adventure on its own. During today's adventure, we were able to take hikes through this incredible region, overlooking ice caps, valleys, gorges, waterfalls, rivers, and velvet-like covered mountains.

Day 3

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall: This iconic wonder of nature is a true gem. The most distinguishing feature of Seljalandsfoss is the pathway that stretches around it. The cliffs behind the falls have a vast cavern; rocks and paths allow guests to encircle it fully. (In the time summer only)

Skogafoss Waterfall: One of Iceland's widest waterfalls, with a drop of 215 feet, creates a lavish display of water and rainbows! Make sure to allow enough time to climb up the top of the waterfall, where there are lookout points to get a bird's eye view of the waterfall. Prepare to get soaked!

Dyrhólaey: Drive up to the cliff’s edge, where you can walk along an easy path 120 feet above the ocean. Here you will see the giant Rock Arch, a result of centuries of erosion. On top of Dyrhólaey stands an iconic lighthouse, built-in 1927. Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach: This site is probably Iceland's most famous beach! Its beautiful black sand, powerful waves, and the nearby Reynisdrangar sea stacks make Reynisfjara a must-visit place and a popular filming location (Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and more). Here, it is all about nature's 'Dramatic Skills'!

Day 4

The Lava Center is an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes, and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. You will see the history of all eruptions in Iceland since 1900 and learn more about the giants surrounding the exhibition: Hekla, Katla, and Eyjafjallajökull. You will also see how active the island is on live earthquake monitors and experience earthquakes and geothermal areas. A movie showing the immense power of the latest eruption, including the last eruption at Fagradalsfjall, in the best available definition and sound. We will then visit the Raufarhólshellir Lava Tunnel. A journey into Raufarhólshellir is a unique experience and an excellent opportunity to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption as one walks in the path of lava that flowed during the Leitahraun eruption, which occurred east of the Bláfjöll mountains about 5200 years ago. This tour allows you to explore the tunnel easily and enjoyably. A footbridge has been built, and impressive lighting in this part of the tunnel highlights the changing colors and clearly shows the potent volcanic activity that formed the tunnel.

Day 5 - 6

Excellent food does not just happen. Behind it are hard-working families, fascinating stories, ambitious restaurants, and age-old traditions. They are a small group of proud local food lovers passionate about sharing Iceland's incredible cuisines with fun, hungry, and curious travelers! In the tastiest sightseeing tour in Iceland, we explore downtown Reykjavik through delicious local cuisines that you would never come across in your typical 'to-do in Iceland' itinerary! We will stroll around the city and visit 5-6 wonderful local restaurants with a fun & knowledgeable guide by your side. You will visit everything from well-known 'must visit restaurants' to small family-run businesses and local secret hangouts. While everything we will have on the tour is traditional Icelandic in some way, we decided to leave the fermented shark, rams' testicles, and sheep head off the menu. Instead, we explore why we Icelanders are indeed proud of our local food by focusing on the absolute most delicious traditional cuisines - That we still enjoy today! On this tour, you will have the chance to try the best local cuisines of Iceland in each season, like the delicious Icelandic lamb that every Icelander grew up loving, homemade Icelandic ice cream from a secret family recipe, a fantastic local seafood cuisine, Icelandic cheese, a hot dog from the famous Icelandic hot dog stand and much more!

Then we visited the brand-new Sky Lagoon. Immerse yourself in warmth at this oceanside geothermal lagoon. The dramatic North Atlantic Ocean stretches out before you. Above, glowing sunsets and stormy skies dazzle, and the Northern dancing Lights sometimes perform a stunning all-natural show. Sky Lagoon is about that Icelandic feeling of warmth and wonder.
